I'm pretty bad when it comes to keeping resolutions. No, really. I am.
In October I purposed to do a physical exercise plan for 30 days. Just 30 days. I made it to like day 3. Maybe 4.
Last month I made a resolution to not listen to music while in the car, for 40 days. I try to spend my commutes, praying and singing. Oh singing. One day I got so tired of my own voice, I started blowing bubbles in my water by humming songs into the straw. I'm not even kidding.
So I need some help. >everyone nods their head< But probably not in the way you're thinking. I'm making a resolution, and this time, I have a proposition.
Starting January 1, I would like to read through the Bible in 6 months. Genesis to Revelation. And I want you to do it with me. Yes, you. In fact, I need you to, so I will stay motivated. ;)
This same challenge was presented to me last January, as a requirement for the discipleship training. It wasn't easy or convenient to say the least, but it was one of the best things I've ever done.
I'll leave the details up to you. I don't care if you read it straight through from beginning to end, or read several books at one time. [I'll link to a printable bible reading checklist when we get started.] It takes an average of 7 chapters a day just so you know, but as long as you're done by July 1st it doesn't matter how many you read daily.
I'll probably make a badge for you to put on your blog if you want-- to help spread the word about reading The Word! We can hold each other accountable and encourage others by what God is teaching us. Every week or so I'll try to post my progress, as well as share a little about what I'm learning. You're welcome to do the same on your blog and leave a comment with your link on my post. Or simply leave a comment letting us know how its going for you. I'm not encouraging competition, so even an honest "I'm not reading much lately" or "I haven't been getting much out of it" will do. We'll all learn to take each other at 'Face Value'.
If you're a teeny eeny bit interested in accepting the challenge, would you leave me a comment and let me know? You have almost a whole month to pray about it. You do not have to have a blog to participate. I'm going to seriously resolve to do this-- will you join me?

28 Reflections:
I would love to Kaylene!
I am gonna do it, Kaylene. I've needed and wanted to do it for a long while. Thanks for the "call to arms." :) I can't wait to start.
Hey, and I want to do a memorization challenge too! I'll let you know more of what I want to do on that also.
Hugs!
I'm so excited! Thanks for joining me.
Memorization is definitely a good idea. I was thinking about posting with some recommendations (like memorizing) and tips for reading, etc... do let mne know what you plan to do! that would be great.
What good idea! Count me in!
Kaylene I will do it with you I read the bible in a year with laura and it was so great I will do it with you.
Yep, Cassie, that was really great! I don't think I've read the entire Bible since then (I hop around randomly...).
Thanks, Kaylene, for the challenge. I will join you.
Sure, I'll try! Notice I said "try"... :)
I'm not that great at resoloutions either. haha!
It'll be fun. :)
Glad to have you all join me!
Amy- Just to know there are others out there trying is encouragement for me! The most important thing is, is to make a conscious effort to meditate on, understand, and live by what we DO read!!
This is exactly what I need to do. My sister was encouraging me the other day when I said I'd never read the whole Bible STRAIGHT through before.
I'm totally on-board. I love the idea of doing this as a group, so there is accountability! Great idea, Kaylene. What a blessing!
Yay, glad to have you too, Abbie!
This is a great idea! I'm going to give it a try. :-) Would you please post the reading plan? Blessings, Eden
Hey Eden, Thanks for joining us! There is no particular reading plan, though I hope to post a link to a checkoff list very soon!. (only 4 days before we start!!!)
Blessings
Spread the word everybody!
Kaylene, sorry I only just now saw this! This is just what I am needing. I have been convicted lately that I have not been in God's Word enough, but without other people I sometimes lack the inititive to just do it. I would also use the reading checklist or whatever so that I will know if I am reading enough each day!
Christin
Christin, YAaaaaay ;) so happy you're going to join us. I know its going to be a challenge-- but one with NO regrets. love you.
hey Kaylene!
I would love to give it a try!
thanks for doing this! :)
Hi Kaylene, I just discovered your blog this evening and have enjoyed reading over a few of your recent posts. I would love to "climb on board" for this 6 month challenge -- it's a great motivation to step up my Scripture reading habit beginning with the New Year. I don't have a blog (I'm just one of those "Facebookers"), but I look forward to following along!
Esther and Carri, Welcome to my blog and the challenge!I pray the challenge proves worthwhile for you! I'm pretty confident it will :)
Count me in! Sounds like a great way to spend our time ,and I have been wanting to do it for awhile! Thanks for inviting us!
Love,
Hannah
P.S. How are you?
Hannah, I'm happy to count you in! Sent you an email this morning =)
I just found your blog through another that I follow, and found this post. On the 3rd of January in our Kids Ministry, a friend of mine was speaking and had us write down resolutions that we cannot do without God's help. For me reading the Bible has been a total weak point. I am good at praying. I could pray for hours, but Bible reading is hard for me. So, needless to say. I would like to join you. I am not sure if I will make it through in 6 months, but I would love to be part of this challenge!
Welcome to my blog!
Thank you for joining us! I'm so encouraged by everyone's desire to get into The Word more this year.
Can I add your name in the side bar? What name do you want me to use?
i'm doing it. even though I commented a little late. :)
I already started, so I will be accepting the challenge!
Thank you for visiting my blog! I hope you'll stop by again soon! I'm going to joing your challenge! Although I'm starting a little late, it shouldn't be an issue. My husband and I have made a commitment to be in the Word every day :)
Wonderful! the more the merrier. I'll add you two to the list!
Hi Kaylene! I just came upon your blog, and I think it is really cool! :)
This reading plan is such a good idea. Catching up will definitely be a challenge, but I would love to join!
Have a great day!
Love and blessings,
Shannon
Shannon, welcome! I will be praying for you as you try to catch up! So glad you've joined us! great to "meet" you.
I'm already doing it, and then found this. So I'll "join" :)
Oops...just realized that it was for 2010 and now it's 2011...oh well :)
